We need volunteers and help from the DAV and VFW to locate all Utah Veterans.

Denise,

Thank you for calling United Way earlier today.  Through your work with Letters to Soldiers you seem to have the pulse of veterans in our community, and we’re very grateful for your willingness to help us with our annual Point In Time Count of the homeless.

I’ve attached a document with some basic information about the Point In Time Count, but here’s the short version:  The Count is required by the government and is being coordinated by the State Community Service Office up in Salt Lake City.  It’s essential that we get an accurate count of our homeless and homeless veterans, because funding allocations are based on our ability to show there’s a need in our community.  (Which you know from personal experience there is!)

The Point in Time Count will be January 27, 2010.  The Department of  Workforce Services, jails/prisons, and food pantries will conduct a count Monday-Thursday of that week.  Please return your completed form(s) to me no later than Wed, Feb 3, 2010 at 5 PM.  The instructions and forms for the 2010 Point in Time Count are available on the State Community Services Office website: http://housing.utah.gov/scso/index.html.

If you have questions regarding the count, feel free to contact Jayme Day, (State Office of Community and Culture, jday@utah.gov, 801-538-8800,) or myself.  We’ll be in touch as the date gets closer.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and thank, again, you for your help!

Chelsea
